Learn to Be Sneaky When Point Sparring
Learning to be sneaky is everything in point fighting. You might not be the fastest or strongest, but you can learn to be sneaky. You can learn to teach your opponent what to do, so that you can do the opposite.

This is me running through Koryo. We have all of our 1st Degrees at our school learn this form and show it at their testings. They get graded on the execution of the form at their 2nd degree testing in addition to our regular curriculum. These are not World Taekwondo style stances, but more of an ITF style stance. Take a look and let me know what you think. 🎶 Losing Control - GetSix & Miss Line...

Side Kick Defense for Point Sparring
Not really my cup of tea but I’m for anyone doing anything to help themselves be better or feel better so do what makes you happy brother and don’t worry about negative people. They’re the miserable ones.
Yep, I used to be really into breaking for a bit. Not so much anymore. But I will hit some stuff every now and then.
Breaking is a crowd pleaser at demos. It also serves as a “confidence test” for both beginner and advanced. While it’s not a necessary part of martial arts training… it’s pretty fun!
I agree. I do think it gives you pretty good feedback on whether or not you are doing the technique correctly, but I feel like it doesn’t have to be a requirement for some programs
😂😂😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡🤡
Oh, so you love breaking then, huh?
Glad to see you’re posting new content!
Broken toes 101
You are right, those pencils are so hard for your little toes.
As the onedude said technique first speed will come and tyen keep power on your back pocket
This man hates pixie sticks The humanity
Carpenter’s pencils. If they were pixie sticks, I definitely would have eaten them. The idea here is that you aim for one specific pencil and only hit that one, but kicking as fast as you can.
Thank you! Caleb found this helpful.
Good stuff. Welcome back.
Thanks. Happy to be creating content again.
Looove your channel! I learn a lot!!
Glad to hear you are getting some value out of it!
Pure rubbish, this trains students to be ineffective in self defense.
This isn't for self-defense. Believe it or not, there are avenues in martial arts than just straight self-defense. Hints the "arts" in martial arts. You found your way to the "competition" side of UA-cam martial arts. ✌️
@@JordanBrownKicks if thats how you spar, that is what you will do under stress outside the dojang
@@scarred10 I disagree. One can switch training applications based on the type of sparring. A well-rounded martial artist is what we should all strive to become. Point sparring has always been something I’m good at, but I also train kickboxing, BJJ, Krav, and other traditional striking arts. Also, the difference between touching and dropping someone is about 2.5 inches.
@@JordanBrownKicks you wont be able to make that distance adjustment if you never full contact spar and furthermore wont be ready for the stress of being hit hard.Majoruty of my training in thai boxing was light to medium contact BUT always in full contact range and using techs that only work in full contact.
@@scarred10 We can agree to disagree
Love the video, keep them comming sir
What’s the difference between you and a taekwondo Olympic athlete, because I see a lot of similarities
I have fought primarily sport karate. Olympic style has a specialized set of rules, but the concepts are pretty much the same.
The key here is proper spacing and height and also to drive straight thru.
it's like applied chess. no wonder i suck at point sparring.
Put your hands up when you throw!
Your front hand should be down by your side and your back hand up. If you are turned sideways the only thing you have to hit is your head and you just lean out of the way.
Good thing that training dummy has it's helmet on. Wouldn't want it getting a concussion or brain damage.
Literally there to keep it from getting banged up and needing to get replaced sooner.
Nice kick. Lot better than my high side kick
Thanks. Takes some determination and a little bit of good genetics, but you can get it higher.
@@JordanBrownKicks yeah I have a lot of power but my technique and balance, especially on more involved kicks, needs some work. I've been getting a bit better though
Wow this is great but I can't believe that the last video was 2 years ago. Are you no longer uploading something new? Hope to get more tips/advice from you 🥲🙏
Yeah, I took some time off. But, I'm looking to start doing it again. What concepts/tips are you looking for?
So what does a 60 year old do when they have to learn this form? Answer: quit!
you need to take it step by step - and stretch, daily. Whereas someone 16 years old can do this form quite nicely after just a month or so of practice - it will take you longer, several months. So, what you need to focus on is being smooth and remember, slow is smooth and smooth is fast - so focus first on being smooth.
This.
Modifications can help as well. A jump hook is hard for those 50+, I recommend staying lower to the ground to save the knees. If you can skip into it, that should be just as good.
Clean kicks good work
Thanks! I've recently won a few tournament and rn I'm number 1 in my division/State currently but I barley won one of my fights so watching this will help alot!
Great video! Keep em coming!
Thank you sir.
You guys have some awesome videos with great explanations. What a gem this channel is!
I think he did really good in fighting open. And I hope to come to Indianapolis to see him again it been a long time
Muito bom 👍
I have a tournament next week and coming across these will help I'm sure, thanks for the videos and God Bless my friend.
Nice demonstration bro
Oss..
Great weapon to use in sparring. I've caught a bunch of people with this kick in sparring. No bragging. Just saying.
i’m hopefully gonna go to worlds next year for tkd and this really made me remember all of these details that i don’t really think about
Well that was a long form. I’m a wt guy, sort of, but even compared to some of the longer Tuk gong Mul sol and tang soo do forms I know, that one is pretty long. Nice kicking though. I haven’t been able to kick like that in a decade.
1st degree form region 102e have districts next weekend thx for the tips
While you are clearly very skilled at kicking and I get this is purely for sport context, this is a big part of the issue I have with sport and modern Taekwondo Tappy foot tag mentality. I can see throwing the first light if you plan to throw power into the second it seems like that’s not what you are showing
As Superfoot always says “All I need you to do is walk into it.”
@@JordanBrownKicks that’s fair. Don’t get it twisted. I’ve watched enough of your stuff to know you can put power into it, but I think we should try to discourage sparring drills that only exist for sport
@@DevilDogMartialArts- But the entire point of the drill is for sport. There's a time and place for each part of what we do. That's why it's called martial ART. To me the art form comes from being able to master each applicable facet of what we do. It's the whole idea of YinYang. It's a duality. Hard can't exist without soft.
@@JordanBrownKicks I’m not sure I agree any more. It used to be Taekwondo was a powerful art and now the majority of what I see is people who lost the self defense side of it (not suggesting you btw). It falls on the instructors to keep the art relevant
Hey! Were can i buy those leg resistance bands?
Oh new look
I'm still looking for my first win in point sparring. I have a mild case of cerebral palsy. I can hit guys, but I have to get in close. My opponents have been using the front side kick to keep me at a distance. I got matched up against a much taller opponent with really long legs at my last tournament, and his front side kick gave me a LOT of trouble. I'm a shorter fighter anyway. Thanks for the vid!
i saw a woman breaking bricks can she shatter a big man skull
Nice spinning Hook kick!
Love this technique. Thank you.
You're so fast!
That's so much simpler and faster than the way I've been training to do it...Imma try this
These are godly feints
🕷 🐍
nt
Thanks for the help, I'm first degree and not very strong or flexible but I'm fairly diligent in practice, unfortunately it's a bit hard for me to memorize this so I'll be revisiting this a lot
Some great videos for sparring but Poomsae has many faults. I have lots of things working on myself and as doing tkd for while know some of them are due to changes in technique of the years. Lots have things have changed, back stance is half foot shorter than front stance and on right side you moved foot into longer stance from front to back? Agree that front stance is too wide. First block should be shoulder height. Sparring is more your forte, you are super fast. Check out some of the latest world champs for up to date changes on Poomsae.
Stances was to wide and you don't swing your arm when making down palm strike , walking stances was way to stiff and narrow and not wide enough but other than that good job.
I'm here because of Michael "venom" Page, my favorite fighter, I learned about his background in point fighting and at first I had no idea what it even was. Once I started watching his point fighting matches from 9 years ago, I began to realize how interesting this really is.
Love it! You make it all look effortless!
This might be purposeful, but you rmovements are stiff, but not strong, especially towards the end they get sloppy and lose power.
